Karl Mahrenholz

KMahrenholzKarl Mahrenholz, 28 has been playing poker professionally for five years and cashed for over $800,000 in live tournaments. He has won numerous UK events including a GUKPT title.

Karl graduated from The University Of Bath in 2003 and began a career in mergers and acquisitions at city firm Deutsche Bank. Karl began playing poker for fun at the age of 18 whilst on a family holiday in Greece, but never thought he would become of the brightest stars of the game a few years later. In 2005 he started to take the game more seriously and began travelling around London to play. At the Gutshot Club he met his future Hit Squad friends and immediately started talking poker with them. Around this time Karl had a much welcome $60,000 bankroll boost in a MTT online and this along with other factors helped him decide to take a year out from work.

It was not until 2007 where Karl had his first major live cash, finishing 2nd in the first ever GUKPT event netting himself $70,000. He carried on this form in the next few months and bagged a further $105,000 from various cashes internationally. In 2008 Karl won his first ever title at an event in London for over $26,000 and this was followed a few weeks later with another victory at the Springfest in Luton for $32,000. Around this time Karl began to take a keen interest in Pot Limit Omaha and very quickly emerged as one of the best players of this game in the UK. In his first year playing PLO he has won and cashed in numerous events all over the world earning himself over $200,000.

In September 2009 Karl won his first major title after winning the GUKPT in Cardiff beating one of the toughest final tables assembled on the tour's three year history. Along with the victory he collected over $63,000. He ended a very impressive 2009 with two victories at the GUKPT London festival, one in NLHE and the other in PLO. These two victories saw him scoop $45,000 and prove why he is one of the most prolific players in the UK.
